Is it free?
Yes. Free to download, free to join.
How do I join?
PlayTrace is invite-only for now. Use a friend's invite code or a link they shared, or join the waitlist when you sign up. Anyone can watch videos without an account.
Do I have to edit anything?
No. The AI picks your best 20 seconds, writes the title, chooses the cover and posts it. If you want to change something, open the video in Studio.
Does everything I record go public?
No. Other players see your highlight and the stretch of play the AI picked around it, never the whole recording. You can unlist or delete any video, or turn auto-posting off and post only the games you choose.
What are the hotkeys?
Alt+F9 starts and stops recording. Alt+Shift+F9 pauses. You can change both in the app.
Do I need the app?
To record, yes: the Windows app, on Windows 10 or 11. It's the whole platform in one window, so you never need a browser. Watching works on any computer or phone at app.playtrace.fun.
Does it work with my game?
Any game on Windows, even browser games.
Will it slow my game down?
No. It records at about 1 Mbps with sound, less than a Discord stream.
Can anti-cheat flag it?
It never touches your game. It only uses normal Windows screen capture. Still check your game's rules.
What is $TRACE?
